CUTTHROAT INTERVIEW By. D.Raida Pack

(Interview arranged by Storm Bird and done by D.Factz for D.Raida Pack Promoz -2001)

D.RAIDA PACK: FIRST OFF WE WOULD LIKE TO THANK YOU FOR TAKING TIME OUT TO DO THIZ RAIDA PACK INTERVIEW. WHY DONT YOU GIVE PEOPLE A LITTLE HISTORY ABOUT YOURSELF AND YOUR CAREER SO FAR, FOR THOSE THAT DONT KNOW.

CUTTHROAT: Im more of a mental cat..I listen while other people run off at the mouth, and speak only when I have something that really matters. I usually have better conversations with myself then anyone else. The way I express myself to others is through music, which to me is my form of communication. When I started, I would usually freestyle over an instrumental into a voice recorder, play it back, and record over it. In 1995, I met up with a cat by the name of Dr. Cap 1, who welcomed me into the South Side Asylum. I released a few albums under the Asylum, then cats scattered to do their own shit years after. After I was gone from the Asylum. I was doing the same shit but with different cats, and still releasing basement albums, all together I released about 8-9 basement tapes. Afew years later I slowed the shit down to analyze myself as an artist. Spit life back into Golden Glair Productions, started working with a cat named CID, and resurrected communication with Dr. Cap 1 through Storm. I also got my own crib, and had a kid which changed a lot of shit. One thing it didnt change was my motivation and focus to create music. I also decided that I wanted to step up a level and put out a professional album. I met up with Marc Kempf, who has worked with artists such as Eminem, Paradime, Da Ruckus, Hush, Uncle Ill, Sun, D-12, Bizarre, etc I inked a distribution deal with his Long Range Distribution, and released Analyze & Interpret on Golden Glair Productions. Guest Appearances included Red Crow a.k.a Storm, Cid, O.P.M (The Disregarded), Aztek, Underground Affiliate, Furious Styles, Mic King, and Chambalyn. Currently, Im back to analyzing and creating concepts for my next album. Production is done by Hush from Da Ruckus, and AMF. It will be available sometime within the next year. Im also going to be working on a project with Storm and Italaz, it will be called CyphZero.

D.RAIDA PACK: WHEN AND WHAT MADE YOU GET INTO THIZ MUZIC THING-THING?

CUTTHROAT: I couldnt take listening to the shit and not doing it myself. There are so many emcees in the world right now, nobody can say or do anything that hasnt been done before. I just wanted to create my own version of Hip Hop for the cats that are tied down to the art of writing lyrics. I wanted to release art through musical animation for cats to study like the Bible. I wanted each verse to be so well wrote, that each time a line passes through somebodys brain waveS,they had to put themselves in my shoes to understand the message. That was my way of communication.

D.RAIDA PACK: WHAT WOULD YOU FEEL INSPIREZ YOUR PROJECTZ WHEN YOU SIT DOWN TO BLAZE NEW ISH?

CUTTHROAT: My own motivation! Sometimes I have it, sometimes I dont. I will re-write a song over and over until it is perfect. Im not afraid to admit that I sometimes spend a few days writing one line. I dont just sit down with apiece of paper and pen and start writing. I think of lyrics when Im alone, fuck around with word play, then write the shit down when I get a chance. Im my best critic and worst critic sometimes. I put more into writing one line then some cats put into their whole albums.

D.RAIDA PACK: WHAT IZ YOUR LATEST PROJECT? HOW WOULD YOU DESCRIBE THE PROJECT AS FAR AS PRODUCTION, FLOW AND TEXT? WHAT IS YOUR FAV. TRACK ON IT?

CUTTHROAT: The last album I dropped was Analyze & Interpret. As far as production, all 17 tracks were produced by O.P.M, except the Hurricane Forces Remix that I produced. The production is on some of that grimy late ninety east coast shit. The multi-syllable, stretched out sentence structure that I was using on the album wouldnt have been delivered correctly with any other style of beat. As far as delivery, I have chopped up variations through out the album. You just gonna have to hear it to see what Im saying. As far as lyrics, Ive had cats tell me that Im a master mind when it comes to delivering lyrics. The best description is to actually hear a few tracks at: www.goldenglair.com As far as my favorite track, Id have to say Unfinished Business featuring Red Crow a.k.a Storm. That track was on the grill for about 5 years, and the shit finally got cooked up to perfection. Me and Storm came out blazin some of the hottest verses Hip Hop has ever heard, and I put that on my life. The beat is sick, the lyrics are sick, the delivery was sick, and the cuts by DJ Chill Will topped everything off. Right after that, Id have to say From My Eyes to Your Ears is the next best track cuz the shit is so real.

D.RAIDA PACK: HOW CAN OUR READERZ GET A COPY OF YOUR PROJECTZ OUT?

D.RAIDA PACK: WHAT YOU FEEL ABOUT THE DETROIT HIP HOP MOVEMENT GOING DOWN RIGHT NOW, AND WHAT DO YOU SEE FOR DETROITZ FUTURE?

CUTTHROAT: Detroit has filtered out the bullshit that once led the way, and became the most powerful scene outside of N.Y and Cali. Eminem went double fucking diamond. Theres no denying that artists like Paradime, Hush, Uncle Ill, Sun, One Many Army, Elzhi, etc. have talent to outshine 99% of the shit thats out right now. Everybodys hungry, people been starving us for years.

D.RAIDA PACK: HOW WOULD YOU DESCRIBE THE TRADITIONAL DETROIT HIP HOP SOUND?

CUTTHROAT: There is no traditional Detroit sound. There arent to many Detroit artist that stick to one sound, or particular style, theres something for everyone.

D.RAIDA PACK: WHAT OTHER EMCEEZ DO YOU BUMP?

CUTTHROAT: As of lately, I cant get Jay Zs new shit out the CD player. Lately Ive been listening to that new Nas joint, Talib Kweli, Canibus, Sway and Tech mix tapes, D.J Butter mix tapes, Royce the 59, Chino XL, Pharoah Monch, D-12, Eminem, Paradime, Hush, AesopRock, Dilated Peoples, Styles of Beyond, Jurassic Five, Ghostface Killah etc..

D.RAIDA PACK: WHAT DOES CUTTHROAT MEAN TO YOU? WHO IS HE AS AN ARTIST? WHAT WOULD YOU SAY IZ HIZ STYLE?

CUTTHROAT: CuTThroaT is a person that respects and has knowledge of Hip Hop. CuTThroaT is a emcee that has knowledge of his writing & lyrical capabilities, and puts them to use. His stylez..I cant make that determination, its up to the people that listen to it to decide.

D.RAIDA PACK: WHO WOULD YOU LIKE TO WORK WITH IN THE INDUSTRY? (DEAD OR ALIVE)

CUTTHROAT: Right now it would be Talib Kweli, Hi-Tek, D.J Premier, RZA, GZA, Canibus, Paradime, Sun and Juice.

D.RAIDA PACK: DO YOU HAVE ANY SHOUTOUTZ TO BLAZE INTO THE CYBER WIND?

CUTTHROAT: Ima have to give a shout to my first born J.T. My girl, Cid, Hush, Ski, Paradime, Sun, AMF, Apocalypse, Marc Kempf, Walter, Silent Records, Shamrock, Real Entertainment, Justin at Detroitrap.com, Uncle Ill, blah blah blah. Its 5:25 in the morning. I need sleep. CuTThroaT (Analyze & Interpret) Available Now! Theres some more shouts inside the cover just read that shit!
One Love to Storm and Italaz, D.Asylum, CyphZero and The Raida pack. And a Huge fucking shout to the peoplez that support my vision in this music.
